And the infestation continues!

What a fiasco! If my PC were a horse I think it would have been kinder to shoot it. I have never seen such a badly infected machine in my life. I have had to use two different spyware removal programs to clean it out, and even then I’m not sure it’s safe. 

The scary thing is, that I found that it had been running remote control software as well as key-loggers. A very cleverly hidden directory on my PC was holding thousands of encrypted files which were not mine, and after examining one in a hex editor I discovered what I assume is the actual name of the file and it scared the shit out of me. I don’t think I need to spell out what type of file it was, suffice it to say that that directory was nuked and the disk scrubbed.

I am now in a quandary. Part of me wants to play it safe and just lock down my PC to prevent it happening again. But another more belligerent part of me wants to set up a honey-trap to catch the bastard that did it. I am yet to decide.
